The passenger, who is allegedly of foreign descent, was arrested and is now detained at Salten police district. Both pilots and one passenger are injured and have been sent to Nordlandssykehuset.

«The two pilots were attacked during the approach, but still managed to make an emergency landing,» said Margrete Torsenter, police prosecutor, at Slaten police district, to TV 2 Nettavisen. «None of them are allegedly mortally injured.»

She said that she does not know the reason for the attack.

The police got the call from the tower at Bodø airport at 10:45 a.m.

«Two pilots and one passenger are injured,» informed Alf Magne Johansen, head of operations at Salten police district. «They were injured with an axe.»

The plane is now at Bodø Lufthavn. Johansen confirmed that both police and medical personnel are at location.

Johansen said that they will check the plane.

«The plane will remain on the ground,» Johansen said.

This route between Narvik, Bodø and Røst is the only passenger route the company operates. According to information provided TV 2 Nettavisen, the plane carries about 20 passengers, but there were seven passengers onboard this flight from Narvik.

«For the time being I can confirm that one passenger attacked the pilot,» said Ørjan Nyborg, at Kato Airlines, to TV 2 Nettavisen. «We do not know anything about the pilots’ injuries. The plane was flying between Narvik, Bodø and Røst. The route has been cancelled for the rest of the day.»

Narvik airport is a regional airport, and according to information provided TV 2 Nettavisen, the airport does not have any extensive security measures, in other words, the passengers are not scanned before they enter the planes.

«Scanning of luggage and metal detectors are supposed to be installed on all Norwegian airports as of January 1, 2005,» said Ove Narvesen, head of information at Avinor, to TV 2 Nettavisen.
