The glass bowl Espen Kutschera found on sale at the Salvation Army’s
second-hand store in Bergen is an ancient Roman artefact.
According to the local paper Bergensavisen (BA), the glass bowl dates back
to the time of the Roman Empire, making it is approximately 1900 years old.
The value is estimated to NOK 50,000 (USD 7,575).
The bowl has been examined by experts in both Bergen and Copenhagen.
«I’m going to donate it to Bergen Museum,» Kutschera said to the local
paper. «Such art treasures do not belong in private collections. This bowl
is actually stolen goods. I’m not saying that the person who gave it to
Fretex stole it, but it must have come from a tomb due to the condition it
is in. It is most likely from a tomb which was plundered sometime during the
1800s.»
