Socialites Celina Midelfart and Christen Sveaas drove down a one-way street
and parked illegally, but even though, the police witnessed the entire
escapade, they let the offences slide.

Celina Midelfart, heiress to a huge Norwegian cosmetics company, and
business man Christen Sveaas were running late to Queen Sonja’s reception at
Kunstindustrimuseet (art museum in Oslo) Thursday, so Midelfart decided to
take a short cut. She drove in the wrong direction on a one-way and parked
illegal in front of the building.
«Sorry about the parking, we are a little bit late and don’t want to arrive
after the queen,» Midlefart explained to the police, according to the
Norwegian paper Dagbladet.
And the police apparently did not mind.
«It doesn’t mean anything to get a fine of NOK 500 (USD 72) when you have a
fortune of NOK 500 million (USD 72 million),» said one of the policemen who
were present to ensure the Queen’s safety. «Since she was so nice and said
sorry, we didn’t do anything with the matter.»
Will look into it
The police have authority to write tickets to
illegally parked cars.
«I have not looked into the case yet, and I want to do that before I can say
what is possible going to happen in this case,» said Sigbjørn Berge, acting
section manager in the traffic department at Oslo police district, to TV 2
Nettavisen.
But the question remains; is it okay to use your charm to get out of a
ticket, or should there be absolute equality before the law?
