Many female leaders quit
In comparison, only 16 percent of the men who participated in the survey Administrativt forskningsforbund (AFF, administrative research association) quit as leaders during the same three years.
In addition, only one in five had advanced between 1999 and 2002, a number that applied to both men and women, reported the Norwegian paper Dagsavisen.
«This indicates that the largest challenge is not that women are not offered these positions, but that they do not remain,» said Tom Colbjørnsen, professor at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, to the weekly paper Ledelse.
The survey indicates that it is promotions are not gender based, and women have the same chance as men to clime the hierarchy.
«The nice thing with this survey is that it indicates that women are not discriminated against when it comes to leadership positions,» said Finn Bergesen Jr., head of the Confederation of Norwegian Business and Industry (NHO), to the paper. «Now I wish to know why women quit.»
