Her name is Ingrid Alexandra
Crown Prince Haakon informed the members of the government the name at an extraordinary cabinet meeting at the Royal castle at 11 a.m. Thursday.
The new princess name is Ingrid Alexandra, explained Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik when he came out and informed public at 11:10 a.m. Its a well-known Norwegian name, and also an old Norse name, and a royal name in the Bernadotte family, among others, Queen Ingrid, mother of the Danish Queeen Margrethe.
The princess full name is Her Royal Highness Princess Ingrid Alexandra.
Ingrid is also used in the Crown Princess family, and it is therefore a nice combination between the two families, Bondevik stated. Alexandra is a very well-known royal name in Europe, but also King Olav Vs, the princess great-grand father, was originally named Alexander. It is also an Old Norse name, so I personally think it is a very nice name.
Impressed by Mette-Marit
After the Prime Minister had made the official statement, Bondevik expressed his thoughts regarding the recent events.
The extraordinary cabinet meeting was very special and more emotionally than usually, Bondevik explained.
At the meeting he said he sent his best regards to the Crown Princess, and he said he was impressed by her for leaving the hospital so soon after giving birth.
Her Royal Highness Princess Ingrid Alexandra was born at 9:13 a.m. Wednesday when Crown Princess Mette-Marit gave birth to a baby girl weighing 3684 grams. She is 52 centimetres long. The baby princess is the successor to the Norwegian Throne after her father, Crown Prince Haakon.
